Antenna basics and construction
The antenna can be considered as the essential link between free space and the transmitter or receiver. Therefore, the antenna's role is two-fold:
* To ensure that as much of the accessible RF power that is supplied by the transmitter is radiated as an RF signal as possible
* To ensure that as much of the received RF signal as possible is made accessible as RF power for the receiver to function successfully.
Consequently, the antenna is one of the primary factors that determines the effectiveness of the complete system. For this reason, the design of the antenna within its working environment is vital to the overall success of a radio system.
